Boys Consider Investing In Hotel

As the Backstreet
Boys prepare to release a new album in November, members of the group are
scouting out possible real estate developments across the country, including
a proposed convention center and hotel to be built in Huntsville, Alabama.
The Backstreet
Boys' Kevin Richardson met with city officials and business planners during
a four-hour meeting on Monday in what was dubbed a "preliminary meeting"
to discuss the multimillion-dollar project, according to "The Huntsville
Times."
"We're looking
at various projects and opportunities at lots of cities around the United
States," Richardson told the newspaper. "I think [Huntsville has] got a
nice civic center here. It would be nice to see a hotel in this area."
While Richardson
was the only member of the platinum-selling boy band to attend Monday's
meeting, bandmates Howie Dorough and Nick Carter were represented by business
partners and managers.
"We do more
than just sing and dance. We've got a brain, too," Richardson explained
to "The Huntsville Times."
If the Backstreet
Boys do decide to put up the money for the planned 300-room convention
hotel, the financing would be made through a local consultant, while a
Memphis-based hotel group is in talks to construct the actual building.
Huntsville,
perhaps best known for being the home of the U.S. Space & Rocket Center,
is being eyed for investment after various Backstreet members visited the
area during recent touring stints.
It was not
known when a final decision on the proposed convention hotel would be made,
although Huntsville Mayor Loretta Spencer is hoping to have a tax incentive
program favorable to such new construction projects in place by the first
of the year.
