Rumour Has
It...
As one of the
biggest bands in the world, not a week goes behind without a fresh Backstreet
Boys scandal ... or so the tabloids would like you to believe. In part
two of our exclusive interview, Kevin, Howie and Nick set the record straight
on some of the year's biggest BSB rumours, exclusively for worldpop …
Rumour No 1
The guys are
planning a chain of Backstreet Boys hotels
Kevin: We're
not planning a Backstreet Boys hotel, it's amazing how rumours get started!
Me, Howie and Nick were talking with developers about investing our names
personally, not the name Backstreet Boys, into an entertainment facility
in a small town in Alabama called Huntsville. They're remodelling the downtown
area and they want to build a movie theatre, some restaurants and a hotel.
We're looking at getting in on the deal cos we do other things besides
entertainment.
Rumour No 2
Nick: The rock
band I'm managing is Born Into Kaos (B.O.K.). It's one of my dreams, I've
always wanted to do rock music. One of my good friends is in the group
- he's a guitarist - and we're trying to get them a deal right now. I'm
writing and producing songs with them now. It's a dream come true, I've
loved rock music for so long. If I did solo stuff, I haven't really sat
back and thought what I would do cos I'm concentrating on this group right
here, but it would probably be more a rock/pop thing cos we do pop/R&B
music, so going straight to rock/alternative would be a little crazy!.
Rumour No 3
Most of 2001
will be taken up by solo projects, with Kevin penning songs with Elton
John
Kevin: I planned
on hooking up with Elton for this album but we never got to do it. But
in the future I'm definitely going to write with him. I asked him and he
extended that invitation so I'm definitely going to take him up on it.
Rumour No 4
The guys were
scared to go anywhere without bodyguards after Brian's dogs were kidnapped
from his home last July
Howie: We all
knew when we were getting into this that we might get recognition and lose
privacy and have to carry security with us. It comes along with the territory,
but unless you go live in a bomb shelter and don't face the world, everywhere
you go there's a possible threat. Anything could happen, but you've got
to live your life. It got recognition just because Brian was an artist,
but that probably happens all the time.
