HEART: They may be worshipped by millions of teenage girls around the world,
but Backstreet Boys Howie Dorough, Nick Carter and A.J.McLean can't find
girlfriends. The "I Want It That Way" hitmakers have been desperately searching
for their perfect partners since fellow bandmates Brian Littrell and Kevin
Richardson married their long-term loves. Howie says, "The three of us
are single and to be honest we really do want to find someone special and
settle down. But we just don't seem to meet anyone that we could get really
serious about. I am so happy for the two guys. You know, Kevin and Brian
are so lucky that they've found two really lovely people whom they've really
gotten to know. For them to find someone in this crazy lifestyle we live
right now, and to be able to totally trust the person and to love the person
heart and soul, is very hard -- but they've found it." And Howie admits
that the three single members get along so well with Brian and Kevin's
partners that they have begun to think of them as sisters. He adds, "Their
partners are so supportive of what they do and they're supportive of the
rest of us. They look out for us like we family. I think seeing those sorts
of relationships really inspires you to find love and have the same sort
of thing. I guess that's where the three of us are now -- looking for Mrs.
Right."
MAKE UP YOUR
MIND, WILL YA? Backstreet Boy Dorough is happy to be single -- because
he sees how relationships mess up his bandmates. The singer isn't even
looking for love because he's enjoying the single life too much. He says,
"I've seen some of the other guys. They work so hard with their girlfriends
-- they gotta call them on the phone: 'OK, I'm here in the hotel room.
No, I'm not going anywhere else.' I'm like, 'I'm young. I have the chance
of a lifetime here.' I don't want to look back and think that I never really
enjoyed it because I had a girlfriend and felt trapped."
DONATELLA I
SAID SO: The Backstreet Boys have a secret to looking good -- Donatella
Versace. The American boyband hunks are dressed almost exclusively in the
hip Versace label since stylish Donatella took them under her wing. Dorough
explains, "Our relationship with Versace started by accident. We went to
Monte Carlo to play at the World Music Awards and the airline lost all
of our luggage. We didn't have anything to wear. So we called Versace and
asked if they could help out. Straight away Donatella was on the phone.
She told us to get down to her store and pick up whatever outfits we wanted.
She's been great to us ever since." Kevin Richardson adds, "Two years ago
she invited all five of us to a show in Milan. On the first day we just
watched. On the second day Donatella asked me to model in the Versus show.
That night, I sat at dinner between Donatella and Naomi Campbell. It was
my birthday and Kate Moss walked in with a cake. I couldn't believe it
was happening."
